GLOSSRY OF GLASS TERMINOLOGY
Agitators, mechanical devices placed inside dispensers of table salt, a few noted examples of these are Stationary, Rotary, Unattached and Vibrating-type.
Annealing Crack, is a fracture caused by internal stresses that have built up within a glass piece during its manufacture.
Cased, Overlay, Lined, Plated, or Flashed, refers to a piece of glassware that contains two or morecontrasting glass layers,
one of which is thin colored and the other crystal (clear). Cased or Overlay glass contains fairly thick layers.
Crackled, glass that has been deliberately fractured after having been formed and then reheated to seal the cracking; thus forming a unique permanent design.
Frosted, sometimes called Camphor Glass, refers to crystal clear glass that has been acid treated -grit blasted to obtain a frosted look, thus making the glass translucent.
Homogenous, glass that consist of a glass mix containing a uniform color throughout it from one surface to the other.
Mold blown, hot glass that is blown into a mold and forced to conform to the pattern of the mold by use of air pressure.
Pontil Rod, a rod used by a glass worker to hold the glass while it is being formed.
Pressed Glass, glass that is put into a mold and forced to conform to the mold pattern by use of a mechanical plunger.
Stained Glass, refers to all or part of a glass surface that has been stained with a colored fluid process, which may have been accomplished by dipping, spraying or the brushing on of hot glass and then firing it to bake on the color.
Variegated / Marbleized or Slag -Like, refers to a glass technique that creates outstanding color variations within a piece of glassware by the incomplete mixing of various colors.
